Villa Phinisi

Timber salvaged from old Indonesian fishing boats gives Villa Phinisi its weathered, storied character, from the beams and furniture to the decks and doors. Set around a lush garden only a short walk from Seminyak Beach, this seven-bedroom villa is laid out like a traditional Balinese family home, with rustic stone, hand-carved details and Indonesian artefacts at every turn.

At its heart is a free-form, lagoon-style pool with a sandy-coloured shallow edge where you can lie half in the water, ringed by parasols, loungers and soft lawn. Beside it, a long timber table seats twelve under a covered dining deck strung with lanterns. A few steps down, the sunken living room has a long U-shaped sofa, a projector and big screen for film nights, and a glass panel set into the pool wall, so you can watch swimmers glide past like an aquarium. The kitchen sits alongside, and the lounge can be closed in with glass for air-conditioned comfort.

Bedrooms are spread over the ground and first floors: upstairs rooms open through glass fronts onto a veranda over the garden, while ground-floor rooms step straight out onto the lawn.
