Villa Sumara
Why We Recommend Villa Sumara
Villa Sumara borrows its shapes from the Greek islands and drops them into Pererenan — curved white plaster, deep arches, rounded niches cut into the walls and a colonnade running the length of the pool. At dusk, when the uplighting comes on and the bougainvillea goes pink against the render, it is one of the more photogenic small villas on this side of Canggu.
The heart of the house is a double-height living room with a sunken lounge — a continuous built-in sofa dropped below floor level around a low timber table, facing a wall of arched glass that folds back to the pool. It is a layout that pushes a group together rather than spreading them across separate seats, which is exactly why it works for friends travelling as a six.
Three bedrooms sit in soft sand tones with woven headboards and their own bathrooms, one with a freestanding tub beneath a brushed-brass tap and a shuttered window. A timber staircase runs up past the arches to the upper level. Pererenan keeps its beachside pace — surf breaks, warungs and a handful of good cafés — with central Canggu near enough to visit and far enough to escape.
