Villa Talun

A paved path runs between bright green rice paddies to the gate of Villa Talun, a crisp, single-level house set right where the fields meet a wall of jungle outside Ubud. Behind the walls, an eleven-metre infinity pool seems to spill straight into the trees, and the soundtrack is birdsong and insects rather than traffic.

The layout is a cluster of separate pavilions around the pool and a landscaped garden, so each bedroom feels like its own retreat. All four have king beds, floor-to-ceiling glass looking onto the jungle, the paddies or the water, smart TVs and en-suite bathrooms with a rain shower and a deep freestanding tub. The open-plan living and dining pavilion has high ceilings, a large timber table and a modern kitchen with a breakfast bar, while a sunken outdoor lounge in the garden is made for slow evenings watching the light fade over the fields.

Central Ubud’s cafes, art markets and the Monkey Forest are a short drive away, with the Tegalalang rice terraces and yoga studios easy to reach, and guests mention good restaurants within walking distance. Back at the villa, a chef can cook in, floating breakfasts can be arranged, and spa therapists or yoga teachers can visit on request.
