Villa Wellness Bisous

Turn off the lane and the villa arrives all at once: a low white pavilion standing behind a cobalt-blue pool, a broad timber deck along one bank and lawn running away from the other towards open rice. Nothing here is above ground level — there is not a stair in the place — so the whole house sits flat against the fields and the coconut palms behind them. Sliding doors run the length of the living side and fold right back, which makes the pool the fourth wall of the room for most of the day. It is bright, quiet, and further out of Ubud than the marketing suggests, which most guests end up counting as the point.

Inside is one long volume beneath a white shiplap ceiling carried on exposed timber trusses, the floor poured white terrazzo from end to end. Living, dining and kitchen share it without a partition anywhere: low white sofas sit against a wall of arched niches lit from within, and past them a long island in white with pale timber stools stands under brass dome pendants. The kitchen is properly kitted, with an oven, a dishwasher, a freezer, a blender and a coffee machine, and the island seats eight without anyone perching. Light arrives through clerestory windows high in the gable as well as through the doors, and it travels across the terrazzo all day.

The four bedrooms are queens, each with its own bathroom and its own Smart TV, and each repeats the trusses and the white ceiling of the main room. Two look over the rice and two over the garden; all have sliding glass on more than one side, so mornings tend to begin with the doors open and the fields already in the room. The bathrooms are a quiet pleasure — a backlit arched mirror above a white slab vanity, a black-framed glass screen, timber ladder shelving for the towels. There is also a spa room, a real one with a timber treatment table, which is not something most four-bedroom houses bother to build.

Because that spa room already exists, a massage is the simplest thing the concierge can send: no furniture shifted, no table wheeled onto a terrace. The other booking that earns its keep is a car with a driver, since Ubud’s market and restaurants are a drive from the gate and guests say so plainly. A cook is worth one evening at least, laid up on the timber deck at the lawn’s edge where the rice runs to the treeline and the built-in lighting comes on at dusk. Housekeeping is daily, the villa has its own washing machine, and towels, Wi-Fi and safes are part of the stay.

Villa Wellness Bisous is a level, white, unhurried house with the fields for a view and a spa room down the corridor. It suits a family of eight, or two couples who want Ubud’s calm without its traffic and will happily trade a short drive into town for a lawn that ends in rice.
