Villa Vara

Two crisp white houses with dark tiled roofs stand side by side at Villa Vara, each fronting its own lawn and its own pool, and joined inside so a group of up to eighteen can stay together without anyone feeling crowded. The setting is Berawa in Canggu, with the beach, beach clubs and cafes all within a couple of kilometres, yet the gardens feel calm and green once the gate closes.

One house holds five bedrooms and the other four, and each has its own bright, open-plan living room, dining table and fully equipped kitchen with concrete counters, an oven and a breakfast island. Wide glass doors slide open to the gardens throughout, so mornings drift easily from coffee in the kitchen to a swim. Outside there are two full-size pools set into grassy lawns, with loungers and parasols around each, plus a table-tennis table and a barbecue for easy dinners under the stars.

All nine bedrooms have their own en-suite bathroom, several with deep freestanding tubs or garden showers, and many open onto a balcony or straight onto the lawn. Daily housekeeping keeps everything in order, and a chef, massages, babysitting and airport transfers can be arranged. The beach is around a kilometre and a half away, so sunset walks along the sand are easy.
