Wanasari Estate

Koi drift beneath lily pads in the pond, frangipani branches arch over a long blue pool, and a thatched pavilion waits at the far end of the lawn. Wanasari Estate is a classic Balinese house set in roughly two thousand square metres of mature tropical garden, in a quiet residential pocket of Sanur where the loudest sound in the afternoon is usually the birdsong.

The heart of the house is a vast open living pavilion under a soaring alang-alang thatched roof, with deep white sofas, carved timber, terracotta floors and turquoise cushions, open on all sides so the breeze moves through. A long dining table seats the whole group beside a fully equipped kitchen, and outside a gazebo by the water makes a natural spot for long lunches, lantern-lit dinners or an afternoon massage. The five bedrooms carry the same romance, with four-poster canopy beds, carved Javanese doors and garden-facing bathrooms, including one with a sunken stone tub.

A villa manager, chef and housekeeping team run the house, and breakfast is included each morning, so days can unfold slowly between pool, hammock and table. Sanur’s calm, reef-sheltered beaches, beachfront cycling path and relaxed cafés are a short ride away, with Mertasari and Cemara beaches close by, making this an easy base for families who want space, shade and a gentler pace of Bali.
