About This Villa

Why We Recommend Aether Villa Berawa

A slim lit nameplate on the timber gate reads AETHER, and it is the last thing you notice before the garden takes over. Behind the gate the ground opens into a walled strip of lawn with palms still young enough to sway, and a lap pool laid tight against the boundary wall with a sunken bay cut into one end for sitting in the shallows. Above it the villa climbs two full storeys of glass, capped by a band of timber louvres. Aether is the fifth of the Hidden Elements villas, and where its sisters take their cue from fire and water, this one is built around light and space, with every room aimed at the sky.

The ground floor is a single volume that never stops at a ceiling. A curved sofa in soft grey sits below a television recessed into a lit alcove, and behind it a stone island of extravagant veining runs straight into the dining table, so breakfast, chopping and dinner for six all happen along the same slab. The kitchen behind it is dark timber and deliberately quiet, with a stove, coffee maker, wine glasses and a freezer that will take a week of groceries. Along the white wall a row of arched niches is cut and back-lit, holding ceramics like small windows into another room, and a Marshall speaker waits on a floating shelf for whoever wants an evening with a soundtrack.

A staircase of floating treads climbs one side of the void with a ribbon of gold sculpture hanging beside it, and the whole upper floor belongs to the bedroom. A king bed sits beneath a slatted timber ceiling lit from a recessed cove, wardrobes running full height behind it, and a glass balustrade along one edge means you wake looking down through the house and out to the treetops. The ensuite is lined in grey-veined marble — twin vessel basins on a stone vanity, black tapware, paired mirrors, and a walk-in rain shower with a slot of window cut to the greenery. A cloakroom on the ground floor saves the climb.

Outside, the pool runs long and narrow the length of the garden, a timber sun deck at one end and lawn between the water and the house, the walls high enough that only the sky overlooks you. At dusk the planting is lit from below and the two-storey glass wall turns lantern. Housekeeping comes daily, a welcome drink arrives when you do, and the team carries luggage down the lane at either end of the stay. Breakfast, a private chef, in-villa massage, transfers, scooter hire and beach-club tables are all arranged on request. Atlas and FINNS sit under a kilometre away, with Berawa Beach barely further.

Aether suits two people who want Canggu close but not underfoot — a villa small enough to feel entirely theirs, with a pool to swim before anyone else is up and an upper floor given over wholly to sleeping. Book it alone, or take one or more of the four element villas beside it and a larger group can have the whole lane between them.

Our Favourite Features

What Makes It Special

Two-storey living volume

The entire ground floor rises the full height of the house to a mezzanine edge, so living, dining and kitchen share one bright uninterrupted space.

Lap pool along the garden wall

Water runs the length of the walled garden with a sunken bay cut into one end for sitting waist-deep in the shallows.

Bedroom above the living void

The king bedroom occupies the whole upper floor behind a glass balustrade, looking down through the house and out over the treetops.

Marble ensuite, twin basins

Grey-veined stone lines the walk-in rain shower and the vanity, with paired mirrors, black tapware and a slot window onto the greenery.

Back-lit arched niches

Curved recesses cut into the white wall and lit from within hold ceramics and give the living room its signature detail.

A lane away from the traffic

The Hidden Elements gate sits roughly 200 metres off the main road, far enough that Berawa’s noise never reaches the garden.
