By The Cliff Villa

Few places in Bali make an entrance quite like By The Cliff Villa. Perched high on the limestone cliffs above Balangan Beach in Uluwatu, its pavilions look straight out over the Indian Ocean, and the soundtrack is waves breaking on the reef far below. A private path of steps leads down to the sand, so a sunrise walk along one of the island’s most beautiful beaches is part of daily life here.

The estate is laid out as a series of pavilions on a terraced, ocean-facing plot, linked by lawns and gardens. Two curving pools, each about one and a half metres deep, follow the shape of the land, one wrapping around a glass-walled living pavilion where a long timber dining table and deep white sofas sit beneath a soaring tiered roof. A modern kitchen with an oven and island, a sunny deck for alfresco meals and a broad lawn for the children to run around make it easy for a big family to settle in.

Five bedrooms are spread between the main house and separate pavilions, giving everyone their own space. Most have king beds and floor-to-ceiling glass facing the sea, and one family room has three queen beds. Bathrooms include soaking tubs and garden showers, plus an ocean-view terrace bath, and a dedicated spa room means massages come to you. Breakfast is included daily, with a villa manager, personal guest assistant and 24-hour security looking after the house.
