Casa Makana

Casa Makana is island-boho done properly: chalk-white walls, arched doorways, woven textures and a pool courtyard planted with palms and cacti that throws hard, beautiful shadows across the plaster through the afternoon.

Its best room has no walls at all. A rooftop terrace sits beneath a thatched alang-alang canopy, furnished with a daybed and low timber chairs, and looks out over the Umalas rooflines — a place to take breakfast early and stay until the light goes. Downstairs a curved sofa faces the pool, and a timber staircase with a slim black rail threads between the two.

Two bedrooms sleep four, calm and pale, with arched mirrors and travertine ensuites. Canggu’s cafés and beach clubs are a short drive, but the rooftop rather undermines any argument for leaving.
