A black numeral six on a pale stone pier marks the door, and beyond it a narrow walled garden runs back to a two-storey wall of glass. Enso 6 is one of a small row of contemporary villas in Bingin, and its ground floor is built along a slim lap pool edged with pandanus, palms and cacti in beds of white pebbles. A broad cushioned sun platform sits at the water’s edge, and a brass-fitted outdoor shower stands against the garden wall. Cemongkak Beach is a five-minute walk, The Cashew Tree three, yet from the pool deck the only thing overhead is sky.

The living room rises the full height of the house. Floor-to-ceiling glass slides open to the pool, a deep modular sofa faces a stone coffee table and a large Smart TV, and a curving plaster staircase climbs out of the corner like a piece of sculpture. An interior window looks down from the upper landing. Along the back wall the kitchen is fitted in pale timber with a stone splashback, a built-in oven, a hob and a tall fridge, and an oval stone dining table with rounded bouclé chairs sits beneath a pair of drum pendants. The palette throughout is sand, stone and oak, calm by day and warm under the evening lights.

There are two bedrooms, each with a king bed against a curved upholstered headboard and its own ensuite. The ground-floor room looks through a black-framed glass wall and skylight onto a planted light well of banana leaves, and the upstairs room has a wide picture window over the treetops. Bathrooms are finished in travertine-toned stone with carved basins and brushed brass taps, and one has a freestanding stone bath beneath a skylight. Above it all is the rooftop lounge: built-in seating around a stone platform, planters and a glass balustrade, and a clear view over the Bukit’s trees to the Indian Ocean, which turns gold and pink at sunset.

Check-in is self-service from 2pm, with building staff on hand. Villa staff clean daily, and a concierge team can arrange airport transfers, a car with a driver, scooters, breakfast, massages in the villa, babysitting, a pool fence and laundry. El Kabron is two minutes by car, Dreamland Beach four and Bingin Beach five, with Saltwood and The Cashew Tree close enough to walk.
