Villa Joglo Tumbak Bayuh
Why We Recommend Villa Joglo Tumbak Bayuh
A pool rimmed in dark lava stone curves around the front of an antique-style joglo, its steep tiled roof rising above a broad timber deck and a wall of jungle green. Villa Joglo Tumbak Bayuh sits in the village of Tumbak Bayuh, just inland from Pererenan, where rice fields and family compounds still outnumber the cafés and the mornings belong to birdsong rather than scooters.
The joglo is the heart of the house: soaring hand-worked timber ceilings shelter an open living room with deep sofas, a long wooden dining table and a kitchen with a tiled breakfast counter and bar stools, with doors folding back to the deck and pool. Outside, the infinity-edge pool is framed by loungers, beanbags, parasols and a thatched gazebo, while a small terrace of rattan sun loungers looks out over the garden and its frangipani-shaded shrine.
Four bedrooms are finished in warm reclaimed-style wood, each with a bold piece of artwork, air conditioning and its own bathroom tiled in jewel-toned greens, teals and dusky pink. Daily housekeeping keeps it all in order, and a chef can be arranged for Indonesian dinners or barbecue nights at home. The surf breaks and cafés of Pererenan and Canggu are a short drive away, close enough for sunset on the beach and quiet enough to come home to.
