Villa Kabaya

A sunken lounge, its long sofa wrapped by a strip of living greenery, faces a pull-down cinema screen in the middle of Villa Kabaya’s open ground floor. It sets the tone for a house designed for groups who want to spend time together without living on top of one another: six generous bedrooms, six bathrooms and around 300 square metres of warm timber, pale stone and soft woven pendant lights in the heart of Berawa.

Downstairs flows from the lounge to a long dining table beneath rattan lanterns and on to a sleek kitchen with a breakfast bar, then out through tall glass doors to a twelve-metre pool edged in tropical planting and sun loungers. The upper floors look down over the water from wide timber walkways, and after dark the garden lighting and illuminated pool give the whole house a gentle glow. Floating breakfasts can be arranged, and the home cinema and an enclosed, air-conditioned living room make easy evenings in.

Each bedroom has a queen bed, air conditioning, a TV and its own ensuite, with large black-and-white Balinese prints above the beds, and one bathroom opens onto a lush garden with a freestanding stone bathtub. Two staff look after the villa, with breakfasts and private chef dinners available on request. Berawa Beach is around 750 metres away, and the beach clubs, cafés, restaurants and minimarts of Canggu are an easy walk from the gate.
