Villa Marang

Villa Marang feels like a grand colonial beach house transplanted into a Canggu palm garden. Crisp white verandas, louvred shutters and high timber ceilings frame an eighteen-metre pool that runs the length of a broad lawn, with coconut palms throwing shade over the timber deck and a thatched gazebo of reclining rattan chairs waiting for an afternoon nap.

Space is the true luxury here: around 700 square metres of living set within a 900-square-metre garden. The vast open-plan living room flows straight out to the pool, a long dining table seats everyone together, and the white kitchen with its breakfast bar keeps mornings easy. When the group wants to spread out, there is a media room with deep sofas and a big screen, a billiard room, a private gym and an upstairs terrace scattered with beanbags above the treetops.

Six bedrooms are split between the main house and a separate guest house, giving families and friends welcome privacy from one another. Each has its own ensuite with a bathtub and rain shower, and ground-floor rooms open straight onto the garden. A team of five looks after the villa with breakfast included each day, and the cafés, surf beaches and restaurants of Canggu are only minutes away.
