Not many villas put a sunken jacuzzi in the master bedroom, but Villa Minggu does, set into a raised timber platform beneath a soft halo of hidden lighting, with panels that close it off whenever you want more privacy. It sets the tone for a bold, contemporary four-bedroom home in Seminyak, all glass, polished stone and warm hardwood, where nearly every room holds a surprise.

Downstairs, the living space opens almost entirely to the garden: a glass-framed lounge with a sunken seating platform, a long dining table for eight and a sleek kitchen with a bar counter, all looking onto a turquoise pool lined with palms and loungers. A glass-walled timber sauna and a jacuzzi sit right by the water, and upstairs there is a small study and a gym with a multi-station machine and cross-trainer for keeping up the routine. The bedrooms are each quite different, from a suite with a round bed and home theatre sound to a master with a projector and screen for film nights, plus calm timber-framed rooms on the ground floor that open straight to the pool and garden.
