Sweet Birds
Why We Recommend Sweet Birds
Sweet Birds is one of those rare Ubud villas that genuinely delivers on every front. Set deep within the jungle canopy just minutes from central Ubud, this six-bedroom retreat combines serious entertainment credentials with a refined tropical design that feels both contemporary and rooted in its surroundings. The centrepiece is a large private pool with a built-in water slide that curves down through the foliage, flanked by a raised octagonal hot tub and a timber sun deck lined with loungers. It is the kind of property that families and friend groups genuinely struggle to leave.
The interiors strike a considered balance between luxury and warmth. Teak timber runs throughout, from the soaring panelled ceilings in the open-plan living and dining pavilion to the handcrafted bed frames in each of the six bedrooms. Woven rattan pendant lights, artisan wall pieces, and palm-embroidered linens give the spaces a distinctly Balinese character without feeling contrived. Every bedroom has air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a Netflix-enabled smart TV, and an in-room safe. Two of the five bathrooms are particularly striking: open-air affairs with freestanding stone bathtubs set among pebble gardens and tropical plants, framed by natural stone walls open to the sky.
For groups, the communal spaces are what set Sweet Birds apart. The dedicated cinema room is properly done, with tiered recliner seating, a ceiling-mounted projector, and a large screen for streaming. Upstairs, a bamboo-screened rooftop patio with a pool table offers panoramic views over the surrounding jungle canopy. The fully equipped kitchen features marble countertops and a galley layout with gas hob and island bench, opening onto a formal dining area that seats twelve comfortably beneath sculptural pendant lights. After dark, the villa takes on a different character entirely, with warm lighting casting through the teak and rattan, the pool glowing below, and the sounds of the jungle replacing the daytime birdsong.
Ubud itself is one of Bali’s most rewarding bases. The Sacred Monkey Forest, Tegallalang Rice Terraces, and Tirta Empul Temple are all within easy reach, while the town centre offers exceptional restaurants, art galleries, and yoga studios. The villa’s jungle-edge position means you wake to the sound of tropical birds rather than traffic, yet you are only a short drive from everything Ubud has to offer.
Sweet Birds is a villa that earns its name. Between the water slide, the cinema room, the hot tub, and the rooftop pool table, there is more to do here than at most Ubud resorts, yet the jungle setting and thoughtful design ensure it never feels anything less than a genuine retreat.
